Kimono: Tradisjonell folkedrakt eller et autonomt kunstverk?

Abstract

Sammendrag Denne bacheloroppgaven gjør rede for den japanske kimonoen, og drøfter draktens utviklingsløp i lys av begreper som det autonome kunstverket og orientalismen. Oppgaven gjør en komparativ analyse mellom en tradisjonell drakt utstilt ved Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum i Trondheim og tekstilkunstner Itchiku Kubotas tilnærming til kimonodesign, for å diskutere betydningen av den japanske tradisjonen i møtet med vestlige impulser.

Abstract This bachelor thesis examines the Japanese kimono and discusses the garment´s development in light of concepts such as the autonomy of art and orientalism. The thesis makes a comparative analysis between a traditional costume exhibited at The National Museum of Decorative Arts in Trondheim and the textile artist Itchiku Kubota's approach to kimono design, to discuss the significance of the Japanese tradition in the meeting with Western impulses.
