For å sammenligne
dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the current method of calculating the economic costs of a
power outage, KILE. KILE is used by the Norwegian government in regulating the
operations of the electrical grids in Norway, and in calculating the cost – benefit ratio
of expanding the electrical grid. We hypothesize that the current method overestimates the economic costs of a power outage in the market for goods and services.
We use a production function to develop an alternative method of calculating the
economic costs of an outage. With macro-data from Norway in the period from 2008
to 2017 we create alternative cost estimates of power outages in Norway. In order
to compare our estimates with KILE we have collected data from Nord Pool from
2013 to 2019 and calculated the average hourly electricity consumption. The model
presented in this paper estimate a considerably lower economic loss compared to
today’s KILE. Our results support our hypothesis, that the current method overestimates the economic costs of a power outage in the marked of commodities and services.
