Giveratferd: En empirisk analyse av hvordan konjunkturer og etnisk sammensetning påvirker innsamlet beløp til TV-­aksjonen

Abstract

Formålet med denne masteroppgaven var å undersøke effekten av konjunkturer og etnisk sammensetning på giveratferd. Jeg konstruerte et paneldatasett på kommunenivå ved å koble informasjon fra innsamlingen til TV-­aksjonen med data om arbeidsledighet, vestlig og ikke-­vestlig innvandring og andre kommunale variabler. Regresjonsanalysen ble estimert ved hjelp av «Fixed Effects» metoden. Jeg finner som forventet at en økning i ledigheten vil redusere innsamlet beløp. Selv om innvandrerandelene hadde svake effekter hver for seg, kunne jeg ikke forkaste hypotesen om at innvandringsandelene simultant påvirker innsamlet beløp til TV-aksjonen. Det mest interessante resultatet var at innsamlet beløp til innenlandsformål er mindre følsomt for konjunkturer, her representert ved arbeidsledighet, sammenlignet med innsamlet beløp til utenlandsformål. Formålet for innsamlingen påvirker imidlertid ikke de separate eller simultane effektene av andelen vestlige og ikke-­vestlige innvandrere på innsamlet beløp, men det at formålet er innenlands vil simultant påvirke effektene av de tre sentrale forklaringsvariablene, arbeidsledighet, vestlig og ikke-vestlig innvandring, på innsamlet beløp til TV-aksjonen.

The purpose of this master's thesis was to investigate the effect of macroeconomic fluctuations and ethnic composition on charitable behavior. I constructed a panel dataset at the municipal level by linking information from «TV-aksjonen» with data on unemployment, immigration, and other municipal variables. The regression analysis was estimated using the Fixed Effects method. As expected, I find that an increase in unemployment will reduce the amount donated. Although my two immigrant variables had weak effects separately, I could not reject the hypothesis that the two immigration variables simultaneously affect the amount collected to «TV-aksjonen». The most interesting result was that the donated amount is less sensitive to economic fluctuations when the donation goes to domestic purposes compared to when it goes to foreign purposes. The purpose of «TV-aksjonen» does not affect the effects of immigration, but the fact that the purpose is domestic will simultaneously affect the effects of all three central explanatory variables, unemployment, Western and non-Western immigration, on the amount collected for «TV-aksjonen».
