Abstract
Abstract—An all-fiber integrated nonlinear silicon photonicwavelength converter has been proposed and fabricated using thesilicon core fiber platform. The silicon fiber was spliced directly toa conventional single mode fiber, facilitated via an inverse taperednano-spike that helped to reduce the mode mismatch betweenthe different core materials. Four-wave mixing-based wavelengthconversion with an efficiency as high as−22.1 dBhas beenachieved for selected wavelengths across the C-band in a devicelength of only∼1cm. Successful conversion of quadraturephase-shift keying signals at a20-Gb/s bitrate, with a 1 to2dBpenalty level at the bit error ratio (BER)= 3.8×10−3, wasused to demonstrate the suitability of the silicon fiber device forthe construction of ultra-compact, all-fiber-based optical signalprocessing systems.
