| nb_NO |
dc.description.abstract | This dissertation aims to discuss societal organization during the transition from the Early Iron Age to the Late Iron Age in Trøndelag. The thesis examines whether the archaeological material from Early Iron Age Trøndelag can be seen as evidence of a pastoral-nomadic culture, and whether the transition between the Early and Late Iron Age (c.AD 550) should be seen as a move from a pastoral-nomadic system to a sedentary farming community. In this discussion, social-anthropological research on pastoral nomads and written sources about the continental Germanic tribes are central. Pastoral nomadism and sedentary farming communities represent two different ways of relating to the landscape. In the dissertation, such relational conditions and the practices that were associated with these are discussed. It is argued that the Early Iron Age can be seen as a pastoral society where mobility was a paramount principle and always an opportunity. The transition between the Early and Late Iron Age can thus be seen as a result of changes in practices. Early Iron Age warriors were part of more extensive mobile networks. Changes in local networks on the continent (in the successor kingdoms) altered these mobile networks, which in turn led to changes in the local networks within Trøndelag. Consequently, the practices that were previously scattered in the landscape now became gathered in practice complexes - the Norwegian historical farm. | nb_NO |
