This master thesis is a qualitative study of how young adults use online newspapers, social media, mobile phones and computers to be updated on science news, and how they want science news to be presented, either as text, pictures, video, sound, or a combination of these media forms. The results of this master thesis shows that different media platforms are used in different ways and the busyness of the young adults everyday life has an impact on how they get updated on science news. I identified two types of newsreaders based on the situation and environment they are in when they update themselves on science news. These two types of newsreaders are the busy newsreader and the concentrated newsreader. The busy newsreaders use Facebook on their mobile phone to quickly become updated on the latest science news. A characteristic of the busy newsreader is that they scroll passively on Facebook and read the science news that the algorithm present for them. These newsreaders want short content, mostly in the form of a text with a picture that captivates their attention. The concentrated newsreaders use their computer to become informed about the latest science news on online newspapers and Youtube. A characteristic of the concentrated newsreader is that they actively search for science news to be informed. This newsreader wants longer content, either in the form of a long text with illustrating pictures or an informative video. To illustrate how the preference of science news varies depending on the media platform and how the science news is presented I made a model called The Presentation Model.
