| nb_NO |
dc.description.abstract | Title: Hospitalized patients with a substance use disorder – a misunderstood group of patients.
Objective: Survey how nurses’ attitudes and knowledge about patients with a drug addiction disorder, may affect how they treat this collection of patients in a hospitalized setting.
Research question: How can nurses take care of hospitalized patients with a substance use disorder.
Method: Defined literature study based on both qualitative and quantitative research from Western countries, as well as academic and curriculum literature which are relevant to nursing education.
Results: A majority of nurses have negative attitudes toward patients with a substance use disorder, which may affect their care for them. Much of the negative attitudes are due to general societal attitudes, as well as lack of knowledge about this collection of patients.
Conclusion: There is a need for nurses to develope their knowledge about patients with a substance use disorder, to be able to change their attitudes toward them. This is not prioritized among the nurses themselves or the leaders of the hospital departments. Building a relationship with good communication may occur as an important role in the care of these patients, and should occur early in the course of treatment. | nb_NO |
