In collaboration with St. Olavs and Biobank1 this project aims to prototype, iterate and test a cutting concept and tool for cutting prostate samples in preparation of further analysis (gene expressions analysis and MR spectroscopy on tissue samples from prostate glands after radical prostatectomy). Based on the results from the pre-master study, the core technology principle to be explored is ultrasonic cutting. Several tests have been performed that have provided knowledge essential for the decision making process during the development process. Aspects as fastening mechanisms of cutting blades, methods of locking the prostate in a fixed position during the cutting procedure and measuring transferring of vibrations, are also revealed and evaluated. Based on a literature review and acquired knowledge potential hazards are evaluated. Tests are performed with a variety of testing objects, but tests of the final prototype in human prostate tissue still remains.
