80-talls Pop Med Moderne Verktøy

Abstract

Hva er det som gjør 80-talls estetikken så gjenkjennelig og særegen? 80-tallet markerte et markant skifte i popmusikkens historie, og i denne oppgaven, har jeg forsøkt å finne ut av akkurat hva det er som gjør 80-talls musikk så særegent. Jeg ville vite om jeg kunne lage en autentisk representasjon av den særegne estetikken med moderne verktøy, noe som hørtes ut som om det var lagd på 80-tallet, og ikke kun en moderne hyllest. Der nyere band ofte romantiserer 80-tallets lo-fi-aspekt til de grader at det blir mer lo-fi enn kildematerialet, ønsket jeg å finne en mellomting. Ved å bruke kun moderne verktøy, og moderne metoder, har jeg gjennom tre egenkomponerte låter, forsøkt å lage musikk som kunne vært sluppet på 80-tallet.

What is it that makes '80s music so recognizable and unique? The '80s marked a significant shift in popular music history. In my thesis I have attempted to find out what exactly it is that makes '80s music so unique. I wanted to know if I could make an authentic representation of that unique aesthetic using modern tools, to make something that sounds as if it was made during the '80s, and isn't just a modern tribute. Where newer bands often romanticise the lo-fi aspect of the '80s to a degree where it becomes more lo-fi than the source material, I wanted to find the middle ground. Using only modern equipment and modern methods, I have through three selfcomposed songs, attempted to make music that could have been released in the '80s.
