dc.description.abstract | Subsea developments have the later years been increasingly popular. Subsea
developments pose some major challenges towards safety, operation and
maintenance. The study is focused on how condition monitoring can be used in
operation and maintenance of Subsea production systems.
The primary purpose and goal of the thesis is to investigate how condition monitoring
can be used to achieve high level of safety, availability and profit in operation and
maintenance of Subsea production systems. Ormen Lange will be used as a case
study to fulfill the goal and objectives of the master thesis.
For the master thesis an inductive approach, have been used.
Data and information for the master thesis has been sourced from non-public
documentation provided by A/S Norske Shell, informal discussions with Shell
engineers, conference proceedings, scientific articles, books and sales material
provided by companies that offer products or services for condition monitoring. The
majority of data and information used in the study can be categorized as tertiary data.
The report describes state-of-the-art within Subsea condition monitoring technology
that is commercially available from the largest equipment manufacturers. As well,
future developments using artificial intelligence, is also detailed.
The author provides a technical and operational description of the Ormen Lange
Subsea choke modules. As well, the procedures for commissioning, monitoring,
inspection and diagnostics for the Ormen Lange Subsea choke module is outlined.
A discussion on the performance of the procedures for condition monitoring of the
Ormen Lange Subsea choke modules, as compared to state-of-the-art within
condition monitoring featured in the master thesis.
The results are presented, as well a short conclusion. Suggestion for further work
include performing an asset management gap analysis and establishing a strategic
roadmap for asset management.
