Nasjonale faglige retningslinjer
sier at hjerneslagpasienter bør kartlegges i tidlig fase for å oppdage kognitive utfordringer.
Resultatene viser at
dc.description.abstract | Short description of the bachelor thesis assignment:
In Norway, 12,000 people get a stroke every year. Two-thirds of people who have suffered a
stroke, live with a functional disability as a result. National academic guidelines say that
patients with stroke should be assessed in the early stages to detect cognitive challenges. Early
assessment of cognitive function is necessary to provide appropriate rehabilitation services.
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to obtain an understanding of the experiences of occupational
therapists using desktop assessments, as well as the test results of these in further treatment after
a stroke.
Qualitative method with four semi-structured interviews were conducted in order to answer the
research question. The participants were occupational therapists working in specialty health
care. The interviews were transcribed from raw text to coding and topics were extracted.
The results of the interviews provide an impression of how occupational therapists in the
specialty health care experience using desktop assessment and their results. The results indicate
that occupational therapists have several common features in applying strategy and assessed
method to stroke patients.
Desktop assessment can give an understanding of the cognitive function of the patient, to the
relatives and other professionals. Other professional groups can benefit from the results and
plan training and appropriate treatment sessions.
