Unga kvinnoroller

Abstract

I detta arbete undersöker jag hur unga kvinnor representeras i nyare coming-of-age film genom en komparativ näranalys av protagonisten Mia (Katie Jarvis) i Fish Tank (2009) och Lady Bird/Christine (Saoirse Ronan) i Lady Bird (2017). I analysen fokuserar jag på filmens tre olika blickar – kameran, publiken, karaktärerna, och hur filmernas specifika val av verktyg och stilgrepp förankras i framställningen av protagonistens kvinnliga subjektivitet. Detta arbete har givit mig större insikt i hur vi kan skapa engagerande kvinnoroller som genererar en frigörande blick istället för en förtryckande blick och jag har funnit att konceptet kring the female gaze, är en viktig bidragande faktor till denna positiva utveckling.

In this text I am investigating how young females are represented in modern coming-of-age films through a comparative close reading of the protagonist Mia (Katie Jarvis) in Fish Tank (2009) and Lady Bird/Christine (Saoirse Ronan) in Lady Bird (2017). In the film analysis I am focusing on the three looks working within the film apparatus – the camera, the characters and the audience, and how the specific filmatic choices are embeded in the representation of the female subjectivity of the protagonist. This work has given me a better understanding of how we can create engaging female characters that produce a liberating look instead of an oppressive look. I have also found that the concept of the female gaze are contributing to this positive developement.
