dc.description.abstractThe present thesis studies service operations vessels (SOV) working in operation and maintenance duties in the offshore wind industry. An analysis of the current industry situation has been carried out and then the vessel s operation has been modeled in the scenario of the forthcoming offshore wind farms, whose characteristics such as size and location differ to a large extent from the traditional ones. Since the development of this type of wind farms is still in an early stage, there is a high degree of uncertainty about the operation characteristics, that, together with the inherent complexity of the marine systems constituted the two biggest challenges of the work. The main aspects that have been modeled are the influence of the sea state during the operation, maintenance duties scheduling, technical personnel transfers, technical personnel needs, vessel s speed and accommodation capacity and costs. After running the model simulating different proposed scenarios, the main conclusions are a set of highly influencing variables that lead to changes in the current vessels design and other set of low influencing variables that the naval architects should be aware of when defining the design hierarchy.
