Gjensidighet - veien til utvikling? - En kvantitativ analyse av gjensidighets betyning for utvikling i utviklingssamarbeid
Abstract
This paper examines the effects of reciprocity on development in an international volunteer cooperation organization (IVCO). Reciprocity has become the latest buzzword for development organizations to describe partnership with the Global South. This is a paradox as the concept is practically impossible to incorporate in traditional aid relations, as it implies a disruption of the historical asymmetric relation between the Global South and North. The new group of development organizations IVCOs create partnership built on reciprocity, rather than trying to incorporate the concept as a work method. By examining vertical and horizontal exchanges in FK Norway (Fredskorpset) I have been able to measure the effects of reciprocity on development. This paper concludes that reciprocity has a clear positive impact on development.
