| dc.description.abstract | Stormwater management in urban areas is an increasing challenge for many modern cities, especially if we take the expected future climate changes with even more precipitation into account. Many cities today, including Trondheim, are using different solutions in their stormwater management as an alternative to the traditional drain combining stormwater and wastewater. One of these alternative solutions is the usage of open streams as a blue-green strategy to stormwater management. This thesis is written with the intention of examining the arguments behind the use of open streams in urban areas, both as stormwater management and as adaption to increased precipitation due to future climate changes. It is also aimed to examine the biggest challenges with the usage of open streams in urban areas, and the considering of future use of this blue-green strategy.
This thesis is a case study of two areas in Trondheim, with very different outcome in the planning and creation of open streams. This to identify important arguments and challenges. The thesis is based on interviews and document analysis. I interviewed employees in Trondheim municipality with experience with open streams as stormwater management, and some inhabitants by one of the areas with planned open stream who was affected by the regulation. Given that the data material is limited due to the small number of informants and the local context with Trondheim as the study area, the results have to be considered as slightly limited. However, I will argue that the study shows important arguments for and challenges with open streams as stormwater management strategy. | nb_NO |
