A detailed characterization of the leached marine clay at Rissa, North-West of Trondheim in Norway, is presented. The site lies just a few hundred meters away from the location where the well-known Rissa slide occurred in 1978. Geotechnical investigations were carried out in connection with the planning of a new road. Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has done extensive work related to the geotechnical characterization of the site over several years, using 54 mm and 73 mm diameter tube sampling. High quality block samples were extracted using a Sherbrooke block sampler. This paper aims to characterize the material in view of results from block samples and study the effect of sample disturbance on the soil properties.nb_NO
