Driving attitudes and how people judge risk factors in traffic are important to understand why people get injured, or killed in road traffic accidents. The drivers aged 16-20 years are most frequently involved in traffic accidents and they also have the highest rates of injuries. This pattern is also evident among young moped drivers. In this master thesis risk attitudes in traffic has been investigated amongst adolescence in different high schools in the Trondheim and Malvik region in Sør-Trøndelag county. Young moped drivers and their risk judgement by using moped in traffic has been the main topic. The research problem has been «Mapping of injuries and injuriepattern for moped drivers, and a study of the subjective perception of risk factors by use of mopeds among adolescents in Trondheim-Malvik region». The theoretical points of view have been use of risk theory and a human triangle model focusing on human behavior, environment and vehicle. An overview of the number of injured, (slightly to killed) moped drivers is presented based on the Norwegian Road Administration accident database 1998-2010. Secondary data show that some factors, for example age and driving environment, i. e. population density in areas have an influence on the number of injured moped drivers. The methods that have been used for gathering primary data have been 15 interview and an interview guide that was used as a mini - questionnaire. There were in total 58 respondents at the questionnaire. The interviews were used to get an in-debt understanding of how youths from three high schools judge the risks of using moped. The questionnaires covered a larger group of respondents within the same topic. The result shows that some groups are taking higher risks than others. The interviews and questionnaires gave some indications of different perceptions and judgment of risk-factors between males and females. Males are less aware of the possible risk than females, especially younger males. The females in the study express lover risk attitudes and behavior, and they are more aware of the risk of driving moped. Vocational study program express more risk attitude and behavior compared to youths at the general (allmennfaglig) study program. Security issues regarding maintaining a moped (thefts, damage) seem to be of less importance.nb_NO
