dc.description.abstract | Color Vision Deficiency (CVD) leads to a reduced capabilityto identify chromatic edges and contrast and may cause signifi-cant problems in various color tasks like, for example, compar-ative color tasks. Many daltonization methods to improve colorperception of color-deficient people, however, change naturalnessof confusion colors, which might complicate other color tasks like, for example, connotative and denotative color tasks. Thus, we present a daltonization method focusing on the en-hancement of chromatic edges and contrast while preserving thenaturalness of object colors as good as possible. Our proposed method, Yoshi-II-edge, is based on a previ-ously presented method, Yoshi-II, which projects and rotates thelost information by color-deficient observers along the directionof optimal visibility. Yoshi-II-edge limits this enhancement tochromatic edges and contrast by computing an edge map obtainedfrom the gradient of the error image between the original and itssimulation. Furthermore, we propose a threshold and dilation toinfluence the width of the daltonized edge. We show that the per-formance of this method depends on the juxtaposition of confusioncolors in the image. More precisely, Yoshi-II-edge performs wellin images with adjacent areas of confusion colors but performspoorly in images with non-adjacent areas of confusion colors. | nb_NO |
