dc.description.abstract | The trend to carry out thermal analysis of Electric Motor is increasing day by day so as to improve the performance of the machines. This paper deals with the thermal analysis of Electric Motors and their cooling solutions, focusing on Ship Propulsion Pods. Using Finite element analysis (FEM), temperature distribution in two coils in a slot, with different turn profiles are considered in this study. The effect of temperature with the use of different conductor s shapes in slot of the machine, temperature distribution in stator and rotor of electrical machines, effect of heat transfer coefficient and thermal resistance are taken for the study. Cooling of electrical machines and a focus on pod cooling has been done. This thesis is done in cooperation with NTNU and Rolls Royce. | |
