dc.description.abstractAbstractIACS has implemented a unified requirement (UR) for polar going ships. This thesis work consists of a well understanding of the backgrounds of IACS UR, the way of applying those rules to the structure and the comparison of different requirements among different polar classes indicated in IACS. Average ice load, design ice load patch dimensions are calculated for different ship size. This thesis includes a better perception about plastic collapse mechanism method which is the main principle of IACS framing requirements. A DNV class FPSO had been chosen to apply the IACS requirements and it has brought a comparative view between IACS with a non IACS class ship. Two different simplified collapse mechanism models have been developed for a single longitudinal frame of the FPSO concerned. Moreover using Abaqus, a non-linear finite element analysis has been performed for a large part of side plating of that FPSO. Then, twice elastic slope method is used to establish limit load from analysis result. By observing limit loads and combining with them with IACS UR, an argument has been drawn regarding validity of this FPSO according to IACS Polar Class.nb_NO
