In order to sustain and strengthen its market position, Teekay Petrojarl (TKPJ) finds it necessary to take a step farther into operational excellence. The purpose of this thesis is to study how Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) can be used as an approach to attain operational excellence in maintenance management. The maintenance management model in TKPJ is presented. Focus has been given to the three steering loops;  Maintenance Execution, Change Control/Continuous Improvement and Maintenance Engineering & Planning, which respectively covers the day-to-day maintenance management, the tactical maintenance management and the strategic maintenance management. Typical decisions made in these loops are also outlined in this part. A general introduction to Key Performance indicators is given. The historical development of performance measurement systems is outlined together with a presentation of how KPIs can be used in operation and management in general. Status on the process of developing and implementing KPIs in TKPJ is presented. Important KPI related findings from a maintenance survey by SINTEF is outlined in order to evaluate the maintenance management in TKPJ and find areas that should be subject to improvement. Important findings from the master thesis  Key Performance Indicators in Maintenance Management and a brief presentation of an ongoing project which intends to implement KPIs in TKPJ is also presented in this part. One of the findings in this part is that much research within the area of KPIs has been performed by TKPJ, but few attempts have been made to implement a complete performance measurement system. It is likely that the ongoing implementation project will change the current status in the near future. A study of KPIs with the intention to find KPIs suitable for the maintenance function in Teekay Petrojarl has been carried out. The study presents and discusses a set of KPIs proposed by SINTEF, with special emphasis on the areas: Maintenance Execution, Tactical Maintenance Planning, Maintenance Engineering & Planning and Overall Equipment Efficiency. Many of the earlier proposed KPIs are found to be suitable, while others are changed or deleted as they are found to be too ambitious. Based on improvement areas found during the work with the thesis and feedback from TKPJ personnel, some additional KPIs have been proposed. The study ends with an outline of how the new set of KPIs can be supported by data sources in TKPJ together with suggestions of how they can be presented in an intuitive matter.nb_NO
