Abstract
ENGELSK: Background: The experience of different degrees of pain amongst patients receiving propofol by IV is high, judged to be somewhere between 28-90%. American anesthesiologist rates it as the 7th most important complication of anesthesia. No protocol to reduce this occurrence exists. We even found several different practices at one ward.
Purpose: The purpose of our assignment is to learn what the latest science can reveal on the subject. By doing so we hope to create a discussion that will lead us in the direction of a common protocol.
Method: We have done a theoretical research for this assignment. The published works we have used was found by both systematic and non-systematic research. Before any articles were used, we analyzed the content and quality.
Result: We discovered a variety of measurements, both medical and non-medical, of which the nurse anesthetist can make use of to reduce the experience of pain during administration of propofol by IV.
Conclusion: We have come to the conclusion that non-medical measurements are to be preferred before medical measurements are considered.
