"Også skjer det noe snedig, for plutselig er vi en gruppe" En kvalitativ studie av hvordan festivalfrivillighet kan bidra til innvandreres integrering i det norske samfunnet

Abstract

I de senere årene har frivilligheten fått oppmerksomhet som et område som kan bidra til integrering av innvandrere i det norske samfunnet. Denne studien ser nærmere på hvordan festivalfrivillighet kan bidra til integrering. Masteroppgaven undersøker hvordan 8 informanters erfaringer som frivillige på musikkfestivalen Pstereo i Trondheim kan gi innsikt i festivalfrivillighet som integreringsarena. Oppgaven har tatt i bruk dybdeintervjuer og gjennomført en tematisk analyse for å vurdere resultatene. De tre analysekapitlene tar for seg temaene: språklæring på festivalen, nettverksbygging på festivalen og fremtidig betydning av deltakelsen. Disse temaene sees i lys av de teoretiske perspektivene: identitetsteori, nettverksteori og Putnams sosiale kapital. Resultatene viser at informantene opplevde deltakelsen som frivillig på Pstereo som et sted hvor de kunne videreutvikle og praktisere språk, bygge sosialt nettverk og få relevant informasjon om lokalsamfunnet. Studien indikerer at festivalfrivillighet kan spille en rolle i å fremme sosial integrering av innvandrere i det norske samfunnet. Funnene kan gi innsikt i hvordan man kan tenke annerledes rundt hvilke arenaer som kan bidra til integrering.

This study is based on the recent attention given to volunteering as a field that can contribute to the integration of immigrants into Norwegian society (Haaland & Wallevik, 2016). In this context, I aimed to examine how festival volunteering can contribute to integration. This master's thesis explores how the experiences of 8 informants who volunteered at the Pstereo music festival in Trondheim can provide insight into festival volunteering as an integration arena. This study employs in-depth interviews and conducted a thematic analysis to assess the results. The three analysis chapters address the themes of language learning at the festival, networking at the festival, and the future significance of participation. These themes are viewed through the theoretical perspectives of identity theory, network theory, and Putnam's social capital. The results indicate that the informants viewed volunteering at Pstereo as a space where they could develop and practice language, build social networks, and acquire relevant information about the local community. The study suggests that festival volunteering can play a role in promoting the social integration of immigrants in Norwegian society. The findings may offer insights into rethinking which arenas can contribute to integration.
