Abstract
Background: Myocardial infarction is still a major global health problem with significant consequences for individual health and for society. A fifth of Norway's population receives preventive treatment in the form of medicines for cardiovascular diseases. Myocardial infarction patients can have challenges both physically, mentally and socially. This can lead to inactivity in heart attack patients.
Aim of the study/ Topic question: The purpose of this thesis is to explore whether: How can nurses contribute to patients in the rehabilitation phase being physically active after myocardial infraction?
Methods: This is a literature review that contains eight research articles.
Results: The results show that many patients lose motivation for physical activity, and some of them struggle with fear and anxiety about activity after a heart attack. Guidance and information about myocardial infarction and physical activity can motivate patients to be physically active.
Conclusion: Myocardial infarction can lead to physical and mental challenges for patients. The health-promoting role of nursing plays a major role in motivating heart attack patients to be physically active. Nurses can motivate patients through professional communication and provide them with necessary information and guidance in places where needed.
Keywords: Nurse, nurse role, physical activity, heart attack.
