Oppgaven vil ta for
Europa. | |
dc.description.abstract | Maintaining satisfaction with democracy is important in Europe as it gives an impression
on how citizens evaluate the democratic functionality of the system they live in. Previous
research has emphasized that a lack of representation and handling of political matters
citizens consider important can have a direct effect on how satisfied citizens are with
democracy. A major part of the population in Europe consider climate to be an important
issue, and the handling of climate change is seen as an important political problem by the
EU, which has led to ambitious climate targets for the region over the next 25 years. The
question will be how the green transition affects those with different climate attitudes in
the terms of how citizens respond to political measures that may be important for many,
and with extra emphasis on those the policies where the attitudes are not as close.
The purpose of the thesis is to study the relationship between climate attitudes and
satisfaction with democracy in light of the green transition through a quantitative analysis.
The assignment will deal with relevant literature within the research field of climate
attitudes and democracy theory, and the data used will be taken from the European Social
Survey.
The results from the analysis show that satisfaction with democracy was even, regardless
of which climate attitude one has. For those with positive attitudes, the results showed a
slight decrease in satisfaction with more investment in green transition, which may indicate
that the investment is not enough, or where climate policy is characterized by lack of long
term goals and quality. For those with less positive attitudes, the effect on satisfaction was
unchanged regardless of the variation in green transition, which may indicate that they see
the investment as a majority decision and thus maintain the same level of satisfaction.
Overall, satisfaction with democracy is consistent regardless of climate attitudes, and the
commitment to green transition has not led to a significant negative effect on satisfaction
with democracy in Europe. | |
