Psykiatri på 1900tallet

Abstract

Formålet med denne forskningen er å finne ut hva som har blitt publisert av overleger om behandlinger i psykiatrien. Dette er for å kunne lære om en viktig del av historien om hvordan legevitenskapen har kommet seg dit den er i dag, selv om prosessen med ‘perfeksjonering’ aldri vil bli ferdig så er reisen mot målet svært interessant. Noe av det vi brukte som behandlinger i «gamle dager» brukes fremdeles den dag i dag, endog kanskje på en annen måte enn opprinnelig, slik som sentralstimulerende midler og blodigler. Oppgaven er en historiografi som helhet da jeg i stor grad gjengir publikasjonene, og forskningsspørsmålet her er «Hva publiserte psykiatriske overleger om psykiatriske behandlinger i perioden fra og med 1. til 2. verdenskrig?» Artiklene jeg har tatt for meg er i perioden 1914 til 1938, og er av tre ulike psykiatere i Norge: Harald Arnesen, Hans Eduard Evensen og Rolv Ragnarsønn Gjessing. Det vi vil se er at Charles Darwin hadde en viss innflytelse på tanken om arv og miljø, og at Freud, Pavlov og Watson kan ha hatt påvirkende kraft i form av stor oppmerksomhet rundt deres synspunkter og publikasjoner innen de respektive fagfelt de tilhørte.

The purpose of this research is to examine what has been published by senior physicians about treatments in psychiatry. This is to learn about an important part of how the medical science has gotten to where it is today, even though the process of ‘perfectioning’ never will be done one must say the journey towards the goal is very interesting. Some of the things we used as treatments in “the old days” are still being used today, but in a different way than the original purpose, such as central stimulating drugs and leeches. The paper is a historiography as a whole as I in a large degree are republishing the articles, and the research question here is “What did psychiatric senior physicians publish about psychiatric treatments in the period from and with WW1 to WW2?” The articles I have taken on are in the period of 1914 to 1938, and is by three different psychiatrists in Norway: Harald Arnesen, Hans Eduard Evensen and Rolv Ragnarsønn Gjessing. What we will see is that Charles Darwin had a certain influence in the idea about inheritance and environment, and that Freud, Pavlov and Watson may have had some influence as of the huge attention surrounding their views and publications within the respective fields they belonged to.
