Margaret Thatcher and Thatcherism had a major effect on British society, and this paper looks further into how her time as Prime Minister of Great Britain affected the Scouse identity. I researched relevant books and articles on the topic, to further understand the link between politics and culture, and how this affects identity. I choose this topic, because there has been a lot of research on whether Margaret Thatcher is the reason that Liverpool is known as a city with a socialist outlook, but not much research has been done on the subject in regards to the correlation between Thatcherism and the Scouse identity. Through research, i concluded that Thatcherism had a negative effect on the city, but this resulted in increased solidarity and cohesion among Scousers. The unity came from old Irish heritage, and as a natural response. Thatcherism and other external forces with negative attitudes gave them no choice.
