Bakgrunn: Hvert år rammes omtrent 145 barn av en kreftsykdom. Å støtte foreldre som har et kreftsykt barn er et viktig element for sykepleiere og noe vi ønsker å se nærmere på. Foreldre vil oppleve mange forskjellige følelser gjennom et sykdomsforløp og behandling av sitt barn, og vil trenge mye støtte og omsorg i denne tiden, både fra egen familie og venner, men også i stor grad fra sykepleiere som jobber tett på den syke.

Hensikt: Å belyse hva faglitteraturen sier er god sykepleieomsorg, og på hvilke måter sykepleiere kan fremme følelsen av støtte til foreldre.

Problemstilling: Hvordan kan sykepleier støtte foreldre til barn med kreft?

Metode: En litteraturstudie som benytter kvalitative forskningsartikler. Hvorav syv artikler ble konkludert som relevante til å belyse problemstillingen. Databaser som ble benyttet i søket etter artikler var CINAHL og PubMed.

Resultat: Analyseprosessen gjorde at vi så tre tema som pekte seg ut; omsorg, kommunikasjon og informasjon.

Konklusjon: Litteraturstudien belyser hvordan kommunikasjon, informasjonsdeling, omsorg, tillit og en god relasjon er med på å skape en følelse av støtte hos foreldrene til barn med kreft. Fra sykepleieperspektivet vil det også belyses de utfordringene som kan oppstå for å yte god omsorg til foreldrene. Slike utfordringer kan være relatert til foreldre som er i fornektelse, som kan føre til at kommunikasjon blir utfordrende og skape vansker ved relasjonsbygging. Den profesjonelle tilnærmingen kan bli utfordret, og stå i motsetning til foreldrenes forventninger.

Background: There are around 145 children diagnosed with cancer each year. Most of the time, parents are the ones closest to the child. Hence the reasoning behind us wanting to acknowledge how the nurse caring for the family can show support in times of distress. Parents experience both positive and negative emotions while enduring childhood cancer, substantiating the need for support.

Purpose: To present available literature that highlights parents' experience during childhood cancer. In addition to valuable ways the nurses can encourage the feeling of being supported. Research problem: In what ways can the nurse support the parents of a child with cancer?

Method: Qualitative research articles have been utilized in the process of this literature study. Of which seven were relevant to answer our research question. The PubMed search engine and CINAHL journal article index were used to discover our research articles.

Result: The process of analyzing all seven research articles uncovered three main topics; care, communication and information sharing.

Conclusion: The findings in this study indicate that several traits must be present for the parents to experience support. These include communication, information sharing, care, trust and a good relation. In addition to this, the articles also shined a light on the difficulties nurses can encounter. Some difficulties are related to parents being in denial, which can complicate communication, information sharing and maintaining a good relation; that further makes it difficult to maintain a caring approach towards the parents. Families staying for longer periods of time at the hospital also make it harder for the nurse to keep a professional approach, as the parents can have an idea and expectation as to how the nurse should appear. Which correspondingly makes it challenging for nurses to maintain professional boundaries.
