Abstract

Tittel: TEACCH-metodikkens effekt på barn og ungdom med autisme.

Introduksjon/bakgrunn: Temaet TEACCH-metodikken og autisme i denne litteraturstudien kom som inspirasjon i praksis der metodikken ble brukt til ungdommer med ulike bistandsbehov i deres hverdag og i undervisningstimene. Det er viktig å undersøke og øke kunnskapen om metodikkens effekt da vernepleiere jobber med blant annet mennesker med autisme, og for å gi økt kunnskap om metodikken.

Hensikt: Hensikten med denne oppgaven er å undersøke metodikkens effekt på barn og ungdom med autisme, samt hvilke ferdigheter som blir utviklet.

Metode: Oppgaven benytter litteraturstudie som metode, og inkluderer fem fagfellevurderte vitenskapelige artikler og annet relevant teori for å belyse oppgavens problemstilling.

Resultat: De fem fagfellevurderte vitenskapelige artiklene identifiserte alle funn på metodikkens effekt og hvilken effekt den har, samt TEACCH-metodikkens effekt har til foreldre med barn med autisme. Resultatene fra artiklene dannet grunnlaget for tre hovedtemaer: 1. Alvorlighetsgraden av autismesymptomer, 2. Forbedring av ferdigheter, 3. Endring av foreldrestress, som videre blir drøftet sammen med relevant teori i diskusjonskapittelet.

Konklusjon: Litteraturstudien viser at metodikken kan ha en effekt på barn og ungdom med autisme der alvorlighetsgraden på symptomer blir redusert og deres ferdigheter blir forbedret. TEACCH-metodikken kan også ha en effekt på foreldrene til barn med autisme ved at deres nivå av stress blir redusert. Videre forskning på metodikkens effekt er viktig da det foreligger lite forskning på temaet, og forskning på dette i Norge bør prioriteres da barn og ungdom med autisme er en målgruppe for vernepleiere.

Title: TEACCH-methods effect on children and young people with autism.

Introduction/background: The theme of the TEACCH-methods and autism in this literature study came as inspiration in practice where the method was used for young people with various support needs in their days of the week and in teaching lessons. It is important to investigate and increase knowledge about the effectiveness of the method as social educator works with, among other people too, people with autism and to provide increased knowledge about the method.

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to examine the methods effect on children and young people with autism, as well to examine which skill are improved.

Method: The assignment uses literature study as a method and includes five peer-reviewed scientific articles and other relevant theory to illuminate the assignment`s problem.

Result: The five peer-reviewed scientific articles all identified findings on the effectiveness of the method and what effect it has, as well as the TEACCH-methods effect on parents with children with autism. The results from the articles formed the basis for three main themes: 1. Severity of autism symptoms, 2. Improvement of skills, 3. Change in parental stress, which are discussed together with relevant theory in the discussion chapter.

Conclusion: The literature study shows that the method can have an effect on children and young people with autism where the severity of symptoms is reduced, and their skills are improved. The TEACCH-method can also have an effect on the parents of children with autism by reducing their level of stress. Further research on the effectiveness of the method is important as there is little research on the topic, and research on this in Norway should be prioritized as children and young people with autism are a target group for social educator.
