Resultatene viste innsikt i hvilke behov eldre hadde for å
gjennom prosessen for å fremme motivasjon.
dc.description.abstract | This bachelor thesis will explore the themes rehabilitation, elderly people and environmental
therapy. The elderly population is expected to only grow in the near future, and this means
further stress on the national health-services. This suggests we need to find options to
Social educators is a type of health personnel with extensive knowledge regarding
environmental therapy. They also have a holistic approach in regards to the rehabilitation
process. This may influence the rehabilitation of elders in a way to make it more positive and
establish a foundation for a good, sustainable life.
The purpose of this thesis is to debate whether environmental therapy can increase the
motivation elders have in regards to rehabilitation. To properly investigate this, the thesis has a
literature study as a base. This resulted in five peer-reviewed articles that makes up the resultpart
of the thesis. Relevant theory is also present. The results gave insight to which needs the
elderly wanted to be met to obtain motivation. The results also carried statements from staff and
family of the elderly. Through the discussion-part of the thesis, it was found that environmental
therapy had a potential of giving a positive effect and increase motivation among the elderly
patients. The elderly themselves highlighted several principles and techniques from the
environmental therapeutic mindset. It was also noted that environmental therapy and
rehabilitation had several common traits that could promote motivation for the elderly patients.
This could be seen as a way to use them as contributions to each other, where they build on one
another and make stronger frames around the elderly to promote motivation and well-being. Seen
in a systematic approach, this study could encourage further research on the focus of future
rehabilitation services for the elderly population.
