In this text, the ideological and political struggle between the Labor Party and the communists in Norway, with a particular focus on how the Kråkerøy Speech influenced this conflict is explored. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative analyses, the author examines the strategies used by both the Labor Party and the communists in their respective party newspapers, Arbeiderbladet and Friheten.
Chapters 2 and 3 provide a thorough analysis of each party's strategy in the fight against each other. The communists attempted to portray themselves as the only genuine party for the labor movement by criticizing the Labor Party's deviation from socialism. On the other hand, the Labor Party tried to portray communism as authoritarian, irresponsible, and destructive.
Chapter 4 focuses on the impact of the Kråkerøy Speech on the struggle between the two parties. The analysis shows an increase in critical leading articles in both party newspapers following the speech. For Friheten, this meant an intensified criticism of the Labor Party's campaign against communism. For Arbeiderbladet, it resulted in a change in strategy, where they increasingly showed sympathy for the supporters of communism to win them over, as well as a shift in focus towards bourgeois parties in April.
The conclusion summarizes the findings and emphasizes that the Kråkerøy Speech intensified the struggle between the two parties and led to a change in strategy and rhetoric. Further research could investigate the development of the ideological and political debate after the given time period, the impact of the Kråkerøy Speech on bourgeois newspapers, and how the public debate unfolded through other channels.
