«En ædruelig nasjon er fundamentet for al sand folkelykke»: Avholdslistene i Trondheim ved kommunevalgene i 1913 og 1919

Abstract

Denne oppgaven har vært en undersøkelse av avholdslistene som stilte ved kommunevalgene i Trondheim i 1913 og 1919. Oppgaven har prøvd å finne svar på hva de to ulike avholdslistene var, hva slags politikk partiene fremmet, hvem som stilte for listene og om partiene samarbeidet med andre i kommunestyret. Hovedsakelig har primærkildene for denne oppgaven vært lokalaviser fra perioden rundt kommunevalget. I tillegg har valgrapporter fra SSB blitt brukt. Sekundærkilder har blitt brukt i oppgaven for å gi et mer helhetlig bilde og kontekst for undersøkelsen av primærkildene. To forskjellige avholdslister stilte i 1913 og 1919 i Trondheim. Det konservative-liberale avholdsparti stilte til valg i 1913. Dette var et avholdsparti med klar tilknytning til høyresiden i politikken. I 1919 stilte Avholdspartiet, et parti som ikke hadde en like sterk tilknytning til høyresiden. Avholdspartiet var i større grad et rent ensaksparti enn Det konservative-liberale avholdsparti, og hadde ingen andre saker i programmet sitt. Disse to partiene hadde mange av de samme kandidatene og samme fanesak. Mens Det konservative-liberale avholdsparti prøvde å få stemmene til avholdsfolk på høyresiden, forsøkte Avholdspartiet å nå andre velgere også. Ved begge valg var disse nisjepartier som var blant de mindre i kommunestyret.

This thesis is about the temperance parties that stood at the local elections in Trondheim in 1913 and 1919. I have tried to find answers to what the two different temperance parties were, what kind of policies the parties promoted, who stood for the parties and whether the parties collaborated with others in the local council. Mainly, the primary sources for this thesis have been local newspapers from the period around the municipal elections. In addition, election reports from Statistics Norway have been used. Secondary sources have been used in the thesis to provide a more comprehensive picture and context for the examination of primary sources. There were two different temperance parties that stood in 1913 and 1919 in Trondheim. The Conservative-Liberal Temperance Party stood in the 1913 local election. This was a temperance party with clear ties to the right-wing of Trondheim politics. The Temperance Party stood in 1919, a party that was not as conservative as The Conservative-Liberal Temperance Party. The temperance party of 1919 was also to a larger extent than The Conservative-liberal Temperance Party, a single-issue party, and had no other policies in its manifesto. These two parties shared many of the same candidates and the same cause. While The Conservative-liberal Temperance Party aimed to receive votes from conservative temperance people, The Temperance Party attempted to have a broader appeal. In both elections, these were niche parties that were among the smaller ones in the local council.
