St. Olav’s Cathedral
Abstract
This master’s thesis consists of two parts. First, an investigation of Baroque spatial design principles by analyzing and 3D modeling a selection of Italian Baroque churches. Second, a design project for St. Olav’s Cathedral in Trondheim based on the findings in the first part. The approach is on the one hand historical, and this study belongs to the field of history of architectural design theory. On the other hand, Baroque principles of spatial design can be relevant to our time, given the vast development in the field of material technology during the last century as well as the rise of digital design tools in recent decades. This project will therefore be developed in the form of research through design.
