Snublesteiner i Trondheim

Abstract

Holocaust er en sentral del av verdenshistorien, der et stort antall mennesker ble ofre for brutale handlinger. Snublesteinprosjektet er et internasjonalt prosjekt dannet for å ikke glemme ofrene til Holocaust. Denne oppgaven sentrerer seg om snublesteinsprosjektet i Trondheim, og hvilken kjennskap et lite utvalg av Trondheims befolkning har i tilknytning til minnesmerket. Dette undersøkes ved bruk av følgende spørsmål: (1) hva er synet på snublesteinene hos et utvalg av befolkningen i Trondheim, (2) hvordan påvirker snublesteinene synet på Holocaustminnet i Trondheim og/eller (3) oppnår snublesteinene som minnesmerke formålet med å starte en egen refleksjonsprosess? Snublesteinene påvirker mennesker på ulike vis, på den ene siden kan de legge til grunne for individuelle refleksjonsprosesser, eller på den andre siden bli totalt oversett. Det er et minnesmerke som er ment til å fange oppmerksomheten til den enkelte som oppdager den, der det skal skape grunn til undring og interesse for å utforske historien videre. Snublesteinene resulterer i individuelle refleksjonsprosesser som legger grunnlag for hvordan en kan tolke historien.

The Holocaust is a central part of world history, where a large number of people became victims of brutal acts. The stumbling block project is an international project created in order not to forget the victims of the Holocaust. This thesis centers on the stumbling block project in Trondheim, and what knowledge a small sample of Trondheim’s population has in regards of the memorial. This is investigated using the following questions: (1) what is the view of the stumbling blocks among a sample of the population in Trondheim, (2) how do the stumbling blocks affect the view of the Holocaust memorial in Trondheim and/or (3) do the stumbling blocks as a memorial achieve the purpose of starting an individual reflection? The stumbling blocks affect people in different ways, on the one hand they can form the basis of individual reflections, or on the other hand they can be completely bypassed and not interpreted. It is a memorial that is meant to capture the attention of the individual who discovers it, where they develop an interest to further investigate the history behind the stumbling block. Individual reflections result in various perceptions on how history can be interpreted.
