Reimer, rømning og rapporter - Solberg-saken og dens bidrag til nedleggelsen av Reitgjerdet

Abstract

I 1978 hjalp den sivilarbeidende legen, Svein Solberg, en pasient ved Reitgjerdet sykehus å rømme. Bakgrunnen for at Solberg hjalp pasienten, var for at forholdene ved sykehuset ikke var bra nok. I tillegg skrev Solberg ei bok, Rapport fra Reitgjerdet, hvor han forteller om hvordan driften av sykehuset var imens han jobbet der. Her kommer han med rystende utsagn som sykehuset, som blant annet; pleien bestod i stor grad av tvangsmidler, det var lite faglig kompetanse blant pleierne, og det var fullstendig brevsensur på all inn- og utgående post. Rømmingen førte til rettssak mot legen hvor nye attester satte Reitgjerdet i et dårlig lys. Som etterfølging av beretningene som kom fram under Solberg-saken, ble det satt i gang en granskningskommisjon som fikk navnet Blom-kommisjonen. I deres grundige rapport bekreftes mye av det Solberg tidligere hadde kommet ut med og driften av sykehuset ble ansett som høyst kritikkverdig. Forholdene ved Reitgjerdet sykehus ble ansett som for dårlige og sommeren 1987 ble sykehuset avviklet. Denne oppgaven skal ta for seg dette for å finne ut om Solberg-saken bidro til nedleggelsen av Reitgjerdet sykehus. Jeg ser dette i lys av hvordan media valgte å dekke sakene, da pressen førte til større offentlig oppmerksomhet rundt situasjonen på sykehuset og det ble forlangt endringer. I teksten bruker jeg derfor nærlesing av utvalgte artikler, samt analytisk gjennomgang av Rapport fra Reitgjerdet og Blom-kommisjonen.

In 1978, the civilian doctor, Svein Solberg, helped a patient at Reitgjerdet hospital to escape. The reason why Solberg helped the patient was due to the hospital conditions not being up to standard. In addition, Solberg wrote a book, Rapport fra Reitgjerdet, in which he writes about how the operation of the hospital was while he worked there. Here he makes shocking statements about the hospital, like; the care consisted largely of coercive measures, there was hardly any professional competence among the carers, and there was complete letter censorship on all incoming and outgoing mail. The escape led to a trial against the doctor, where new testimonies cast Reitgjerdet in a bad light. To follow up on the reports that came out during the Solberg case, an investigation commission was set up, named the Blom Commission. In their thorough report, much of what Solberg had aforesaid, was confirmed and the operation of the hospital was considered highly objectionable. The conditions at Reitgjerdet Hospital were considered too bad and in the summer of 1987 the hospital was closed down. This thesis will deal with this in order to find out whether the Solberg case contributed to the closure of Reitgjerdet hospital. I see this in the light of how the media chose to cover the cases, when the press led to greater public attention to the situation at the hospital and demanded changes. In the text, I therefore use close reading of selected articles, as well as an analytical review of Rapport fra Reitgjerdet and the Blom Commission.
