Import av Kaffe, Sukker, Sjokolade og Kakaobønner i årene 1860, 1890 og 1920.

Abstract

I denne oppgaven skal vi se på hvordan importen av luksus varer utviklet seg i Norge i årene 1860, 1890 og 1920. De luksus varene vi skal se på er kaffe, sukker, sjokolade og kakaobønner. Vi bruker primærkilder fra Statistisk Sentralbyrå som grunnlag. Så vi bruker mange sekundærkilder for å skape en tolking av hvordan rollen deres forandret seg. Vi starter med å gå igjennom primærkildene, altså i hovedsak import-listene fra Statistisk Sentralbyrå. Vi går da videre og ser på hvilke sekundærkilder vi skal bruke. I hoveddelen går vi gjennom alle varene hver for seg. Når vi går igjennom hver av varene bruker vi pris per kg i de valgte årene 1860, 1890 og 1920 sammenlignet med en gjennomsnittlig lønn hos en offentlig veiarbeider for å se hvor mye de kunne kjøpt. Om muligheten for å kjøpe mer av disse luksusvarene økte levestandarden eller om den økte levestandarden gjorde sånn at det var mulig å kjøpe varene. Til slutt konkludere vi om importen økte. Om den økte importen gjorde prisen billigere per kg og om levestandarden økte av de økonomiske prosessene som har skjedd de siste 60 årene.

In this bachelor assignment, we will take a look at how the import of luxury food changed in Norway in the years 1860, 1890, and 1920. The luxury goods we will look at are coffee, sugar, chocolate, and cocoa beans. We use primary sources from Statistics Norway as a basis. We will use a mix of books and articles as secondary sources to understand how the role of these goods has changed. We start with going through the primary sources, having a focus on the import lists. Then we move on to the secondary sources to see why we are using them. In the main part, we go through each commodity separately. We use the price per kg and an average salary for a public road worker in the years 1860, 1890, and 1920 to see how much they could afford. If the raised salaries and buying these luxuries increase the standard of living or if the increasing standard of living made it possible to buy these luxuries. We will at the end conclude how the import changed. How the price per kg became cheaper and wages were raised and how the standard of living changed over the 60 years.
