SAMISK REINDRIFT I SETESDAL 1880-1914

Abstract

Fordypningsoppgaven tar for seg den sørsamiske utvandringen fra de typiske sørsamiske områder i Nordland/Trøndelag, og til Setesdalen i sør. En periode med sterk vekst av reindrift førte til kamp om beite og konflikter med lokalbefolkningen. Flere samer så seg presset til å flytte beite for å kunne opprettholde sin næring. Bykle i Setesdalen ble et attraktivt område og man så flere samer som utvandret hit. Denne oppgaven forteller denne historien. I forskningen er det lagt et fokus på å finne ut hvorfor de dro sørover, og hvordan de ble behandlet.

This thesis deals with the South Sámi emigration from the typical South Sámi areas in Nordland/Trøndelag, and all the way down to Setesdalen in the south. In a period of strong growth in reindeer herding, little space and conflicts with the local population forced several Sami people to move pastures in order to maintain their livelihood. Bykle in Setesdalen became an attractive area and you saw several Sami who emigrated here. This thesis tells this story. In the research, a focus has been placed on finding out why they went south, and how they were treated.
