Håp og livskvalitet hos palliative kreftpasienter

Abstract

Formål Formålet med oppgaven er å undersøke hvordan håp og livskvalitet kommer til uttrykk blant eldre palliative kreftpasienter, og på den måten klarlegge hvilke forventninger som stilles til sykepleiere i møte med denne pasientgruppen. Problemstilling Hvordan kommer håp og livskvalitet til uttrykk blant eldre palliative kreftpasienter, og hvilke konsekvenser får dette for sykepleieres arbeid med denne pasientgruppen? Metode Dette er en litteraturstudie hvor systematisk litteratursøk er gjennomført i databasene Cinahl, Medline (Ovid) og PubMed, med søkeordene cancer, neoplasms, hope, palliative care og quality of life. Totalt 6 studier ligger til grunn for resultat- og drøftingsdel. Funnene er tematisk analysert. Oppsummering Håp er ansett som en effektiv mestringsstrategi, som gjør palliative kreftpasienter i stand til å overvinne vanskelige situasjoner. Håp arter seg på forskjellig vis, og endrer seg i takt med sykdomsprogresjonen. Et felles håp blant palliative kreftpasienter er å kunne opprettholde selvstendighet og normalitet, noe som også kan bedre livskvaliteten. Støtte fra familie og venner er høyt verdsatt. Sykepleiere har stor påvirkningskraft på pasientens håp og livskvalitet, og har ansvar for å formidle ærlig og fyldig informasjon i den hensikt å peile pasientenes håp i riktig retning. Abstract Aim The aim of this study is to find out how hope and quality of life are expressed among elderly palliative cancer patients, and what is expected from nurses working with this patient group. Research problem How is hope and quality of life expressed among elderly palliative cancer patients, and what are the consequences for nurses working with this patient group? Method This is a literature study where a systematic literature search was conducted in Cinahl, Medline (Ovid) and PubMed. Keywords: cancer, neoplasms, hope, palliative care and quality of life. 6 studies are included in this paper. The findings are thematically analyzed. Summary Hope is an effective coping strategy, which enables palliative cancer patients to overcome difficult situations. Hope manifests itself in different ways, and changes with the progression of the disease. A common hope among palliative cancer patients is to be able to maintain independence and normality, which also can improve the quality of life. Support from family and friends is highly valued. Nurses have a great influence on the patient's hope and quality of life, and are responsible for conveying honest and comprehensive information in order to point the patients' hopes into the right direction.
