"En til rundt bordet" En kvalitativ studie av integrering gjennom frivillighet med utgangspunkt i Røde Kors sin vennefamilieordning.

Abstract

Overordnet tema for min masteroppgave er integrering gjennom frivillighet. Oppgaven har til hensikt å belyse hvordan et utvalg av familier som har meldt seg som frivillige for Røde Kors sin vennefamilieordning erfarer sin deltakelse i aktiviteten. Basert på kvalitative intervjuer med disse familiene, utforsker oppgaven hvilke tanker, holdninger og forståelser informantene har til integrering i seg selv, og rundt eget bidrag til integrering av den enslige mindreårige flyktningen de er vennefamilie for. Denne oppgaven vil også fokusere på å belyse motivasjonen som ligger til grunn for at informantene har tatt valget om å bli med i ordningen. Det empiriske grunnlaget for oppgaven er bygget på ni dybdeintervjuer med ulike familier som har meldt seg som frivillige for et integreringstiltak som er ment for å skape trygghet, inkludering og forebygge utenforskap hos unge og enslige mindreårige flyktninger. Datamaterialet fra intervjuene presenteres i to analysekapitler, hvor tematisk analyse suppleres med inspirasjon hentet fra narrativ analyse benyttes som analysegrep.

Formålet med masteroppgaven er å sette fokus på hvilken betydning integrering gjennom frivillighet kan ha, belyse erfaringer av integrering gjennom et frivillig integreringstiltak og fremme behovet for å rekruttere flere inn mot den frivillige integreringssektoren.

I det første analysekapittelet får du møte informanter fra åtte vennefamilier, i temaene "Den gode medborgeren", "Ut av eget hamsterhjul" og "Bidrag som det lille ekstra". Temaene har til hensikt å utforske hvordan informantene begrunnet valget om deltakelse i vennefamilieordningen, og om de anså at de selv tilførte ungdommen et bidrag. Ut fra sitatene som blir presentert er det mulig å trekke ut at informantene anser vennefamilie-ordningen som et viktig tiltak. Ved at de gjennom deltakelsen både opplever å tilnærme seg nye perspektiver, anser seg selv for å være gode medborgere, til slutt anser de sine bidrag både til å skape en stabil situasjon for ungdommen og samtidig fungere som en forankring inn i samfunnet.

I det andre analysekapittelet kan du lese de fem fortellingene "Gruppen har liksom fått et større spekter", "Vi har verktøyene for å lykkes i Norge", "Å bane vei inn i det norske samfunnet", "Velkommen til storfamilien" "Jeg har blitt mormor!" og i tillegg få presentert temaet om "Integrering av vennefamilien". Fortellingene har til hensikt å utforske hvordan informantene opplevde at de eller ordningen bidro til integrering, og hvilke erfaringer de sitter igjen med fra deltakelsen. Ut fra fortellingene og tema som ble presentert er det mulig å antyde at informantene anser at vennefamilieordningen i seg selv bidrar til integrering, og at de er med å integrere ungdommene ved å dele av deres kunnskap og ressurser. Flere av informantene anser at de selv blir integrert gjennom ordningen.

The overarching theme for my master's thesis is integration through volunteering. The thesis aims to shed light on how a selection of families who have volunteered for the Red Cross family friend scheme experience their participation in the activity. Based on qualitative interviews with these families, the thesis explores what thoughts, attitudes, and understandings the informants have for the integration itself, and around their own contribution to the integration of the unaccompanied minor refugee they are connected with. This assignment will also focus on shedding light on the motivation that underlies the reason that the informants have made the choice to join the scheme. The empirical basis for the thesis is based on nine in-depth interviews with various families who have volunteered for an integration measure that is intended to create security, inclusion and prevent exclusion among young and unaccompanied minor refugees. The data material from the interviews is presented in two analysis chapters, where thematic analysis is supplemented with inspiration taken from narrative analysis and is used as an analysis tool.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to focus on the significance of integration through volunteering, shed light on experiences of integration through a voluntary integration measure and promote the need to recruit more people into the voluntary integration sector.

In the first analysis chapter, you will meet informants from eight family friend , in the topics "The good fellow citizen", "Out of your own hamster wheel" and "Contribution as the little extra". The topics are intended to explore how the informants justified the choice to participate in the family friend scheme, and whether they considered that they themselves contributed to the youth. By looking at the quotes that are presented, it is possible to estimate that the informants consider the family friend scheme to be an important measure. Through the fact that through the participation they both experience approaching new perspectives, consider themselves to be good citizens, finally they consider their contributions both to create a stable situation for the youth and at the same time act as an anchorage into society.

In the second analysis chapter you can read the five stories "The group has somehow gained a wider range", "We have the tools to succeed in Norway", "To pave the way into Norwegian society", "Welcome to the extended family" "I have become a grandmother!" and in addition be introduced to the topic of "Integration of the family friends". The stories are intended to explore how the informants felt that they or the scheme contributed to integration, and what experiences they are left with from the participation. Based on the stories and themes that were presented, it is possible to suggest that the informants consider that the family friend scheme in itself contributes to integration, and that they help to integrate the youth by sharing their knowledge and resources. Several of the informants consider that they themselves are integrated through the scheme.
