svikt i å mestre relasjoner.
dc.description.abstract | Background: Schizophrenia is a disease which affects approximately one percent of the
population, and it is the most severe diagnosis within the psychotic disorders. A challenge
found in treating the illness is failure to master relations. A patients cognitive functions and
communication skills are something a nurse has to take into consideration as many patients
are easily distracted.
Purpose: To enlighten further research and literature on the topic of how nurses can
efficiently use good communication to achieve a good relation to patients with schizophrenia.
Method: A literature study which uses qualitative and quantitative research articles. The
study includes seven research articles, one being a pilot study. Databases used in our research
were Ovid Medline and Cinahl Complete. The articles were found using the following key
words: Schizophrenia, Psychiatric Patients, Communication, Nursing/Nursing Care and
Nurse-Patient Relations.
Result: The analysis process uncovered three topics: “To be seen as a human being”,
“communication and communication skills”, and “the significance of the relation”.
Conclusion: The study enlightens the importance of communication skills in encounters
patients with Schizophrenia. With this study we conclude that the following subjects are of
great importance for this group of patients: a need for increased competence and training of
communication skills, to create a relation and acknowledge the patient with Schizophrenia,
and lastly, the significance of the nurse’s attitudes and time management.
There is an increased need for knowledge on the topic of communication skills and an
understanding of the patients experiences. Factors like attention, listening, showing respect,
creating trust and empathy is crucial. Use of eye contact, facial expressions, an exaggerated
use of verbal and nonverbal language and humor showed to be effective measures in creating
contact. | |
