Har Kina en defensiv eller offensiv realistisk strategi i deres samhandling med Vietnam og Filippinene i Sør-Kina havet?

Abstract

Sør-Kina havet er et område som har fått mye omtale de siste ti årene. Det virker som om området er preget av mye konflikt og uro. Denne avhandlingen har forsøkt å gå dypere i disse konfliktene. Ved å se på Kinas samhandling med Vietnam og Filippinene har forfatter forsøkt å vise Kinas intensjoner i området. Ved å arbeide ut ifra antakelsen om at Kina har defensive intensjoner, har det blitt forsøkt å føre en argumentasjon for at de har nettopp defensive intensjoner. Det har vist seg at denne hypotesen kun holder stand i Kina-Vietnams tilfelle. Kina-Filippinene tilfelle viser, etter forfatters mening at Kina har offensive intensjoner.

The South China Sea is an area that has received much publicity in the last ten years. It seems that the area is characterized by a lot of conflict and unrest. This dissertation has tried to go deeper into these conflicts. By looking at China's interaction with Vietnam and the Philippines, the author has tried to show China's intentions in the area. By working from the assumption that China has defensive intentions, an attempt has been made to argue that they have defensive intentions. It has been shown that this hypothesis only holds true in the case of China-Vietnam. The China-Philippines case shows, in the author's opinion, that China has offensive intentions.
