In this work, the influence of tungsten on the crevice corrosion resistance of three super duplex stainless steels (SDSS) containing 0.0, 0.6, and 2.1 wt.% W was determined. The PD-GS-PD technique was used to estimate the critical crevice repassivation temperature by performing tests at different temperatures. Additionally, long-term potentiostatic experiments were conducted as a function of temperature in natural seawater to validate PD-GS-PD testing. Results showed that W improved crevice corrosion resistance as evidenced by the higher initiation and repassivation crevice temperatures, which were 7.5–15 °C higher in the 2.1 wt.% W SDSS than in the W-free case.en_US
