Seksualitet og transkjønn: relasjoner og kampen for anerkjennelse

Abstract

Denne oppgaven består av en tematisk analyse av transpersoners erfaringer med seksualitet, seksuell praksis og kropp, basert på ni intervjuer med personer som definerer seg innenfor samlebetegnelsen trans. Disse erfaringene deles opp i utfordringer og det jeg ser som strategier for å oppnå sexliv informantene trives med. Blant strategiene er oppmerksomhet, fantasi og seksuell praksis sentrale temaer.

I tillegg inneholder oppgaven analyse av hva omgivelsene kan bety for informantene, og deres rom til å leve i tråd med opplevd kjønn. Omgivelsene kan bidra positivt og negativt til ens selvfølelse, men hvorvidt omgivelsene har en innvirkning avhenger av hvordan man selv ser andres påvirkningskraft. Jeg utforsker omgivelsenes betydning på tre nivåer; intime relasjoner, relasjoner med noen i ens omgangskrets, og relasjonen mellom samfunn og informant.

Omgivelsene kan også provosere frem små, hverdagslige protester. Enten dette gjelder protester mot samfunnets normer for kropp og kjønn, mot stereotypiske oppfatninger av hva det innebærer å tilhøre et kjønn, eller om protesten er å snakke tilbake når man mottar upassende kommentarer fra omgivelsene. I den forbindelse utforsker jeg også i denne oppgaven det jeg ser som hverdagsaktivisme i mitt materiale. Hverdagsaktivisme i denne teksten dreier seg om ulike praksiser som utføres av informantene, bevisst eller ubevisst, som kan bidra til økt anerkjennelse av transpersoner, samt et økt spillerom for kjønn generelt.

This thesis consists of a thematic analysis of the experiences of transgender people with sexuality, sexual practice and the body, based on nine interviews with people who identify with the collective term trans. These experiences are divided into challenges and strategies for achieving a sex life which the informants are content with. Among the strategies, central themes include attention, imagination and sexual practices.

In addition, this thesis contains an analysis of the significance of the social environment on the informants, and their prospects of living as their perceived gender. The social environment can contribute positively and negatively to one's self-esteem, but the extent of their impact depends on how one perceives the influence of others. I explore the significance of the social environment on three levels; intimate relationships, relationships within one's social circle, and the relationship between society and informant.

The social environment can also provoke small, everyday protests, whether these are protests against society's norms for body and gender, against stereotypical perceptions of what it means to belong to a gender, or whether the act of protest is talking back when receiving inappropriate comments from one's surroundings. In connection with this, I have also identified in my material what I would consider to be everyday activism. In this text "everyday activism" refers to various practices carried out by the informants, consciously or subconsciously, that can contribute to increased recognition of transgender people, and broaden the scope of interpretation of gender in general.
