Climate change is our generations biggest challenge and will change every aspect of our lives. Over the last couple of decades, there has been a need to include the field of psychology in questions regarding climate change, as this will provide useful information in understanding the complexity of the problem. This has also led to an increase in the research in the intersection between climate psychology and industrial and organizational psychology. There is an increasing number of people dedicated to reducing the effects of climate change through private initiatives and through their work. The latter is the subject of this study. This qualitative study examines how employees in climate organizations experience meaning in their work. The study is based on interviews with seven informants, all of whom are employed in organizations working with climate issues. The data material was analysed using thematic analysis. Results from the study indicate that there are four prominent themes which are important in the construction of meaning for employees in climate organizations. These include a relationship between the self-concept in the workplace and the private self-concept, a feeling of usefulness that is tied to the work and the workplace, as well as a feeling of community at the workplace. Additionally, feelings of frustration and hopelessness were also prominent in the process of creating meaning in their work.nb_NO
