Statnett is a state enterprise wholly owned by the Government of Norway. They are the system operator of the Norwegian energy system. Working at their construction sites expose workers to hazards related to heights, machines and electricity. The aim of this study is to explore how Statnett is working with safety training, and consider if there is room for improvement. Further, the aim is to evaluate a VR training Statnett has introduced and look at how it fits with the rest of the training. The study is based on 11 interviews and two investigation reports. Thematic analysis of the data revealed four themes linked to safety training: formal training, informal training, external firms safety training and distance between training and actual work, and two themes concerning VR: VR training and VR value. The findings indicate that Statnett has an extensive safety training regime covering important areas. The study highlights the importance of informal structures in safety training and recommends to a greater extent to ensure the transfer of knowledge from experienced workers. It is also proposed to monitor the gap between work as it is planned and work as done as an opportunity to build a more resilient organization. The study found that the VR training matches well with real work. Potential areas of improvement are found as the VR training is seen as too disconnected from safety training in general. VR has a potential for a positive contribution to safety training in the future if it is developed further.nb_NO
