The aim of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities of identifying specific cultural activity from the iron age in Sunndalen, by applying metal detecting as a means for contextualization. This is done by looking at connections between the finds in their chronological and functional connections, and an emphasis on connections through practice. This study shows that there are many possibilities to using the metal detecting to find traces of cultural activities in Sunndalen. However, uncertainties in the formation processes of the plough soil context, raises the question whether the metal detecting finds are representative of these possibilities.nb_NO
