Abstract
There are few studies done on the relationship between foreign policy and transnational terrorism. Research on terrorism also lack a common agreement on the relationship between democracy and transnational terrorism. The main objective of this thesis is to identify the relationship between democracy, foreign policy and transnational terrorism. Despite benefits and the fact that transnational terrorism involves two or more states, few studies use a dyadic design when studying the causes of transnational terrorism. By using a dyadic design and conducting a series of statistical analysis this thesis demonstrate that a dyad consisting of a democracy and a non-democracy have significant greater possibility of experiencing transnational terrorism. Intervention and alliance, foreign policies democratic states tend to use toward non-democracies are also significant predictors of transnational terrorism.
