Sammendrag
A long line of research has tried to find explanations for the often found, but poorly
understood associations between borderline personality disorder and posttraumatic stress
disorder, that usually emerge in the context of childhood trauma with an interpersonal aspect. Uncovering the causal, mediating, and moderating influences on these associations may have important consequences for how clinicians view the diagnoses, and more importantly, how patients with these diagnoses are treated. This review attempts to shed some light on the discoveries of research published between 1990 and august 2015, to help organize what has been found on the subject, and also elucidate what needs to be done in future research in order to gain further clarity.
