| nb_NO |
dc.description.abstract | Summary of the thesis:
The PhD thesis is titled: «Norwegeneinsatz 1940-1945. Organisation Todt’s laborers in Norway and the degrees of force.» The German semi-military building organization Organisation Todt, established in 1938, became one of the most visible institutions in German occupied Norway. The PhD thesis devotes itself to the organization’s labor force as a collective group in Norway. These workers constituted a multifaceted group, peaking at 90,000 persons: Forcibly conscripted as well as enlisted wage workers, in addition to prisoners of war and political and criminal prisoners belonging to 21 different nations. The dissertation shows how the labor needs of Germany were, for a long time, significantly larger than the available number of workers, but that the Organization Todt after three and a half year of operations in Norway disposed over a labor forced which was, in numbers, largely consistent with its ambitions. Major themes are: how the organization went about in order to recruit the labor, how its labor force were composed and how the various groups of workers were treated. The main argument is that Organisation Todt's labor policy were shaped in the tension of field between ideological perceptions and pragmatic considerations. | nb_NO |
