Sykepleie til palliative kreftpasienter

Abstract

NORSK: Bakgrunn: Hvert år rammes nordmenn av ulike kreftsykdommer. Å få beskjeden om at man har en inkurabel kreftsykdom, kan for mange oppleves som traumatisk, og utløse en krise for dem som blir rammet. Mennesker i krise trenger medmenneskelig kontakt og støtte gjennom god kommunikasjon. Allikevel er sykepleiernes kommunikasjonsferdigheter og dens betydning for pasientens livskvalitet lite forsket på. Hensikt: Hensikten med denne litteraturstudien er å sette fokus på hvordan kommunikasjon til palliative kreftpasienter kan bidra til økt livskvalitet i hjemmet. Metode: Databasene Ovid Nursing Database og Google Scholar ble brukt i søket etter litteratur fra februar til april 2014. Søkeord som Communication, quality of life, nurse-patient relationship, palliative care og cancer ble blant annet brukt for å finne relevante artikler. Diskusjon: Det er mange faktorer som bidrar til økt livskvalitet hos pasienten. Det er ingen klare holdepunkter for at kommunikasjon alene øker livskvaliteten, men forskning viser at kommunikasjon indirekte bidrar til økt livskvalitet.

ENGLISH: Background: Every year, many Norwegians are affected by cancerous diseases. For the average person, receiving the message about having an incurable cancer can be traumatic, and oftentimes trigger a crisis from within. People in crises require compassionate contact and support through good communication. Despite this neccesity, a nurse's ability to communicate and its impact on a patient's quality of life are rarely studied or focused on. Purpose/Aim: The aim of this literature review is to focus on how communications with palliative cancer patients may improve their quality of life at home. Method: The Ovid Nursing Database and Google Scholar were used to search for literature pertaining to this topic from February to April 2014. Keywords such as communication, quality of life, nurse-patient relationship, palliative care and cancer were used to find relevant articles. Discussion: Many factors contribute to increased quality of life for these patients. There is no clear evidence that communication alone can increase quality of life, but research has shown that communication with patients can indirectly help and improve their lives in a noticeable and significant way.
